Corgan pondering “Internet TV show” to cover album sessions

After the Thursday evening concert in Boca Raton, Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan emerged into the Florida night and spoke to a video-camera-equipped YouTube user (mostly dark video here). Here’s what Billy said:

We’re actually thinking about trying to do something really interesting, now that we’re out of the label situation. Our idea right now is to do maybe something like…we would, um…if we could find somebody to do it with us, maybe do, like, um…it’s hard to explain, but maybe some sort of like Internet TV show, where, you know, we would film through the week, and maybe even play on a certain day, the songs, and then every week you’d get to see what the new album’s…like, you’d get to watch the new album being created. So it would be like every week. So you would know, like, if you were watching something live, you know, you’d say, “oh, he just wrote that song two days ago,” or something… I think it would be kind of cool, if we could find the right partner. I mean, if we do it on our own, it would be kind of difficult. But I think we could find somebody interested… I think we’re going to try to find a partner. It could be anybody from VH1 to, you know, uh, some of these HD, uh, Internet channels.

    i would watch this!!!
but not sure if VH1 cares enough about old billy boy…

This reminds of the 666 tape things. I remember him jamming on the riff to the black rider and the viper. To this day, two of several favorite riffs in the whole PM. This could be interesting because of possible interaction, although it could be a negative like Weezer and Maladroit. But if I had the opportunity then, I could imagine myself going on and on ranting and yelling bout how “feelium” and “depresso” should be turned into full-flegded songs.

Maybe this time, we’ll have some say and sway?

Will someone tell Billy to stop fucking around and record some goddamn music? Seriously. I’m happy to hear that he’s more open to the idea of being a showman, but good god, this idea sounds just awful.

Got another cool title for my future sci-fi novel bout the underground vampires and a worldwide long tunnel…..I call it:

at&t blueroom worked out pretty well. so yea, going with a partner would probably work out much better. I mean, how long did “day in the life” last? i think they did those themselves and they just kinda fizzled away.

@ deathrockduck — i think its more about coverage and content than being a showman. in the good ol’ days anything SP did would find its way to MTVNews, like 666, teibite video shoot, etc. But now-a-days, without a label and with the drastic shift in the media, he’s just thinking out-loud about some alternatives to getting some good unbiased media coverage for the band.

    Very cool idea !!

I think that’s a great idea. I also don’t see any reason why he would need any other parties to be involved. I’d be pleased with the most simple of camcorders just being set up, running, then edited and put up on youtube. Or they could do a Radiohead-like (sorry, I know it’s a total faux-pas to talk about Thom & Co. here) webcast sort of thing, like their Thumbs_Down webcast. Easy, fun, free?

    Possibilities: endless.

It’s not at all. We have hundreds of readers, so don’t let four or five whiners in the comments deter you from saying what you want.

He should partner with the viral marketing experts at

I think this would be a great idea for them. Why not? A lot of people want to know what SP is up to right? Now that the tour is over SP news is kinda dead…

    he has great idea$$$$$

This would be cool. I love these little moments when he lets people in on the creative process, though I’d think as an artist it would be a bit nerve-wracking. But as a fan it’s fascinating.
