Chicago’s Q101 to debut “G.L.O.W.” on radio this morning
September 28th, 2008 by jjbtags: G.L.O.W., news, radio
I’m sure they’ve been saying on it on the air, but none of us listen to the radio so we asked them for confirmation via text:
Thanks for listening and texting! World Premiere music from Smashing Pumpkins 9am Monday..only on Q101.1 :: Chicago’s Alternative..:: ::..
We sent another text to thank them, and this came in response:
Thanks for listening and texting! World Premiere music from Smashing Pumpkins 9am Monday..only on Q101.1 :: Chicago’s Alternative..:: ::..
While we were disappointed to realize we had not in fact received a personalized reply, we are heartened to know the band is getting automated pub..:: ::..
So, presumably the song will air during the Sherman & Tingle Show. Click the “Listen Live” link in the left sidebar on this page to hear Q101’s stream.

Time to put freecorder to work, get myself the song early…
September 29th, 2008 at 2:06 am
chicago time is 2 hours later than pacific time? I wonder if I can catch it before I leave for work. I also wonder if our alt. rock station live105 will play it too?

Shannon: I also wonder if our alt. rock station live105 will play it too?
They very well might; my impression is that it will be available beginning at that time for any station that wants it, but Q101 in particular has been talking it up.
September 29th, 2008 at 6:50 am
Can’t wait for this. Thanks for the heads up. :D
September 29th, 2008 at 9:04 am
listening to it right now and it’s probably the first new songs since SP started that I really didn’t have too many big issues with the production.
September 29th, 2008 at 9:06 am
I can’t make any comment on the production, since I listened on the Q101 stream and the audio quality left much to be desired, but the song sounded almost exactly like the live performances from August. The only difference from what I could tell was that there was a little bit more of the “whooo-oooh-oooh” backing vocals earlier in the song, but I may just not have noticed this when hearing it live.
September 29th, 2008 at 9:07 am
Had an issue with the mix though. Corgan’s voice is too loud in it.

someones link of their recording of it from blamo
September 29th, 2008 at 9:40 am
Thanks for that. Sounds cool. I like it.
September 29th, 2008 at 9:40 am
production sounded quite ok to me.
i want them to go back to studio to re-record entire Zeitgeist tracks incl.Superchrist with this kind of productoin and re-release it.

That’s been the case with everything the band’s done since Machina. It’s a really offputting habit.
September 29th, 2008 at 9:59 am
I’ll disagree with Machina because when I listen to that album it doesn’t bug me the same way that the recent work has.
September 29th, 2008 at 10:24 am
Here we go… Now all of the engineering, production, and mixing experts swoop in. “His voice is too loud.” “It’s over-produced.” I’m sure this was all accidental, too, right? Like, you’re going to bump into Corgan after a show and let him know his voice is too high in the mix. He whips out his iPod and listens, a befuddled look upon his face. Suddenly, realization creeps across his furrowed brow: “Oh my God, you’re right! What was I thinking? Thank you! You obviously have a much, much better ear than I do! How many records have you produced? Really? Wow! That’s a lot!”
September 29th, 2008 at 10:34 am
I loved it!!!!Studio version is very good
it’s got mixed reviews, but that’s no surprise…
September 29th, 2008 at 10:45 am
mixed reviews? where?
the poll on the q101 site shows that 90% of the voters like the song
September 29th, 2008 at 11:13 am
Mr Corgan has talked with fans after or before concerts outside venue quite often recently. someone should tell him about the production issue. if anyone have such a chance in the future, you should tell him how great zeit songs themselves are but how awfully production has ruined them.
September 29th, 2008 at 12:24 pm
It’s not bad. I really enjoy the part where it slows down … where he says “it’s not strange…”
Production is good as well.
September 29th, 2008 at 12:30 pm
the vocal layers work with and bellow the main vocal line of this song just enough to give the song a real bite instead of bloating and hindering as was the case on zeitgeist. it’s a grand step above zeitgeist but song wise i think it is lacking. that was to be expected considering he was basically aiming for a general bland audience with it so it doesn’t bother me at all.
September 29th, 2008 at 12:49 pm
I liked the song
it’s a great rock/late-grunge song, I liked the riff, the spirit, the groove and I like te studio version a lot.. I’m enjoying what I’m listening, it’s fun etc etc
but I know I’m also sort of disappointed: I can not “feel it”, it’s just some empty-lyric, without artistic content, built for a stupid videogames, just to have fun..
I don’t mind this at all, but I’m not used to think the pumpkins songs (only) in this way,
so I really hope the next album will have also something different to offer than these easy “c’mon” and a ‘zeitgeist rock attitude’.. but I know billy’s plans for it sound promising ;9
September 29th, 2008 at 2:03 pm
I’m slightly impressed. Not a bad tune, although I’m looking forward to hearing the top quality version to say for sure…but it was better than I thought it would be having heard the bootlegs.
I gotta say though, not a huge fan of how Billy has changed his singing technique (even from TFE), especially when the higher stuff, it sounds a little flat. And the lyrics…well…they are definitely the weakest thing about the song. Don’t know what’s going on there so much, are the more poetic/conceptual days gone in favor of ‘come on, come on’? That would suck, it was always one of the best things about SP.
September 29th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
I think it’s pretty great. I wish the radio rip didn’t have those weird fan blade swishy noises in it. BUMMMMEERRRRRRRRRRRoooowwrrrrr.

come on come on come on god this song is lame
September 29th, 2008 at 4:36 pm
Love the “woohoohoo”’s. Hilarious.
September 29th, 2008 at 6:39 pm
probably the only criticism I have of the song itself is that it’s about 30 seconds too long. Cut out the majority of the “come ons” and go to the ending.
September 29th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Time to start asking who’s going to debut the video…
September 29th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
Color me surprised!
The douchebags at Posers United complaining about yet another Pumpkins release!
Maybe you should form your own band seeing as you’re all so knowledgeable on the subject of production and what exactly the band should be doing next?
drbenway, you’re the only poster I’ve seen comment here that actually makes a good point among the usual parade of naysayers, Corgan haters and garden variety ‘experts’. Thank you.
Haters United, why can’t you just post the news like other sites do? Drop the pathetic opinion pieces and juvenile derogatory commentary and maybe concentrate on something you’re actually interested in? The Smashing Pumpkins are definitely not your favorite band.
September 29th, 2008 at 11:06 pm
how about this… if you don’t like hipsters united don’t come back. there are those of us who do enjoy it (and greatly at that) and are freaking sick and tired of the dumb arguments. talk about the pumpkins not about blogs or rival message boards of the pumpkins.
why doesn’t everyone just drop the damn tough guy act and just write about the band… not each other….
September 29th, 2008 at 11:14 pm
Thomas, I love/hate to say it, but: YHBT by P.I. Joe. HAND.

September 29th, 2008 at 11:35 pm
Posers United? Haters United? Ha!
Anyone know why people like P.I Joe exist?
September 30th, 2008 at 2:51 am
P.I Joe, what’s wrong with giving opinions (analysing, criticising or whatever) about the band you like? you praise and say bitter words because you love/rate highly the band.
your attitude is of nothing but a cult devotee. say yes to and never doubt what the founder says/does, attack those who say bad things toward your hero.
sure, we dont know nothing about politics so let’s abolish the voting system and just let who-know-the-best-about-it do.
you had your house refurbished. sure, you dont know anything about doing a house, so stop complaining, just accept what they do even if they’ve done stupid job apparently.
September 30th, 2008 at 5:28 am
Jesus
and the shit gets flung……..
Please note production heads that a song is compressed even more for radio and also the whole mp3 dealy-o(128kbps) and whatever was used to record and transfer the thing bleh blah blooooootttttttsgh etc (someone already pointed out the digital imperfections)
we seem to complain a lot about geting things for free and in an instant these days….
Come on, come on, come on, You got to steal it
September 30th, 2008 at 6:24 am
i loved the song, i like this version better than the live one. and yes not important has a good point, complainers seem rampant.
and drbenway, hehe, love it!

Me thinks some of these new posters complaining about slight criticism are going to be very active o-board members whenever it gets up.

ahah I can feel it
thank you very much 1 Less Trip to Hell!
well it’s sounds so good.. great kick-ass song
I still expect something more from the feelings and meanings that a song can convey etcetc.. but again just for the sake of stupid rock’n'roll fun I can’t really complain \m/>.
