October 21st, 2008 by christags: if all goes wrong, G.L.O.W., sp.com, podcast, tour
This week we had a special guest join us on the podcast. Paul, the webmaster of SmashingPumpkins.com, came on the show to talk about some upcoming changes to the official website (as shown above!) and offer his tour predictions.

This week’s topics:
Panelists
-Chris, Jason, and Jill
Special Guest
-Paul
News
-Pumpkins to perform at the Spike Scream Awards. Is this a good move for the band as artists? What’s the most kickass beverage to slam? Plus, a contentious debate on the new shirt: White Spyder or Tarantula? (11:47)
-If All Goes Wrong is coming to a theater near you. Our guest does some name dropping and gives us a scoop straight from the source. (8:15)
-The band is coming to my hometown. It’s not news, but I treat it as such. (2:26)
Interview:
-Paul tells us what’s coming to smashingpumpkins.com, why they’re bringing back the o-board, and what the band’s involvement is in their web presence. However, he gives us no juicy gossip. (34:44)
Tour Predictions:
-Once again we all place our bets on what song that hasn’t been played by the reformed Pumpkins will get debuted over the next few weeks. Will Jason strike it rich again, or will he wager it all on Mastery + Conjecture? Note: At the time this was recorded, Billy had not yet mentioned Sunkissed as a spoiler. (9:01)
This Week in Pumpkins History
-Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is released, and the band plays the infamous Riviera Theater power outage concert. (2:42)
Song of the Week
-Geek U.S.A., October 23rd, 1995
If you have a suggestion for a future guest interview, leave it in the comments.

interesting interview with Paul, anxious to see what comes out of this. As a refugee from the O-board circa Machina, this is a throw back to when people accused each other of being band members.
For the record, I still get that sometimes. That one still perplexes the hell out of me.

cognitive dissidence….
irreveracably committed…. Lots of big words there
More blogs! That would be nice! It’s nice to know that they look at the website. I wouldn’t think they’d have time. About redesigning the site more than once… I completely understand. As an artist, your own things are never perfect… you always see something that you want to tweak.
Thanks Paul for all your insight. I think the “special” guest thing is cool…. but I’m new to see your site.

I kind of ran my thoughts together. The comment about the special guest wasn’t directed at Paul :)

-it is clearly a white spyder. No contest. (tarantulas are the hairy body builders of arachnids, that doesn’t look anything like, -right?)

Great show! Paul was a great choice for a guest. It will be strange to see SP.com gone for 2 days.
I agree with them playing the scream awards for new ‘viewership’ as you called it. I can’t see a reason to not attain new fans.

ok finally got to listen, great interview guys, and your predictions are good. but i do kinda resent that you all gotta bag on me for the “no more radiohead” comments, and yes i know you were talking about me, cause yeah, i say it alot, but it is cool, and hey you can talk all about anything else that even slightly pertains to the pumpkins in the blog, but please again, no more radiohead.
i am really looking forward to the new sp.com design and new billy blog, and i think they should play i am one, if i had a fictional 75 buckaroos, that is what i would put my money on.
and you should have sven on as a guest. or maybe monte, ;)
October 22nd, 2008 at 11:51 am
Do Monte and Sven…Sven first though!

Well, since everyone else is confessing, I must admit that the “3 months max” comment also kept me going. ;) I owe my writing career to whoever said that, and to my stubborness. ;)
Great podcast once more.

The most listenable podcast, to date
October 22nd, 2008 at 2:15 pm
Two comments for the special guest, one a followup to a question Chris posed on the podcast and I’d have asked were I on it.
1. Better/worse boss: Corgan or Tony Brummel? Really, I just want crazy Tony Brummel stories.
2. The Pumpkins don’t need to play to get me back to the Horseshoe…but I see an awesome Staind/Papa Roach show there in December. Tech roulette, here I come!
October 22nd, 2008 at 3:32 pm
If you want Brummel stories, we’ll have to share those over a pint. WOOOOO
October 22nd, 2008 at 11:35 pm
I think that can be arranged. Or has already been arranged. Booyah.
October 23rd, 2008 at 2:42 pm
Oh, wouldn’t it be nice if we could get a new era of I Am One rants? Actually, now that I say this, it seems like Billy’s probably taken those as far as they could go. Which is sort of a bummer, but I don’t know. I feel like if we got a set-full of “gimme gimme gimme gimmes,” it would feel more cheap than exciting. Unless this tour is so goofy that Billy wears silver pants for Mellon Collie songs, and paisley shirts and a wig for Siamese Dream or before songs. Ha.

The assumption is that this is “a blog about the Smashing Pumpkins” and not “a blog about the Smashing Pumpkins & and bunch of other random things at time”
I for one want to say I do like what you guys do. But if you acttually could stay on topic of your subtitle then maybe, just maybe we wouldn’t get heat about being off topic.
You guys shouldn’t be ashamed to say Netphoria on your podcast. We already have a sense of this blogs obsession over that community.
kodos for having Paul, but man. the podcast was way too long. It reminded me of what Billy said about Adore being way too long. Or maybe that critics said that to him about adore.
Anyways I would suggest to say what you need to say in the least amount of words possible. Your trying to entertain people here, rather you recognize it or not.

Monte has a point with the length. I stopped listening to the radio because the DJs just drag stuff out or keep recapping it. It was hard to listen to the whole podcast in just one sitting

Hey nice podcast guys, definately listenable but a wouldm’t say the the most listenable podcast, to date. I think I have heard all the podcasts and they are all very entertaining. It’s really fun to listen to you guys chatting away about the best band in the world. Your view points are very inspiring and artistic and even cute at times, good work!
Anyway looking forward to the new sp.com Thanks for the insight Paul and all the hard work you are puting into the site.
I too also am interested in what Billy has to say in his new blog. I will guess.. More details on next years concept album!
By the way here is my pick of what song I think they will play during the 20th Anniversary tours. “Suffer” from Gish (During White Crosses) I’ll put $50 imaginary dollars on that! Lets see if I am right. Would be awesome to hear it with a 7 or 8 piece band with strings and percusion. “Will you wait, yes i’ll wait I will wait!!” to hear it!!
