Okay, I just watched The Fillmore Residency, a.k.a. the main dish on If All Goes Wrong DVD #2. That was sweet.

Three of the 15 songs are performed by Billy Corgan and Lisa Harriton alone, those being “Peace+Love+Shit”, “Death from Above”, and “Winterlong”. Given my previously expressed fondness for that duo’s takes on “Death from Above” and “That’s the Way”, you might expect that I’d be all about these performances too…and boy, would you be right. I only watched it once, but I thought “Peace+Love” was the shit.

Better keep an eye on your man, Jimmy…he just might have another musical soulmate in the band these days.

I just got done watching the dvd a bit ago to. Peace+Love might be my favorite on the track. And to think, she said she wanted to play for Perry, what a loss that would have been. It’s amazing that not many reviewers actually even mention her and the contributions to the band.

I love watching Lisa play, she looks so into it and happy about what she’s doing. I love her attitude, when they talk to her in the documentary, the way everything is so fresh to her and she’s so excited about the new things she’s discovering musically. It’s very refreshing.

I’d love to hear Lisa’s take on the current tour. I think it would be really interesting to hear her viewpoint as a classically trained musician. After the shows, one of the impressions I was left with was that Billy’s almost a conductor at times; the band, his orchestra.

I think Lisa is a great fit. Her playing always complements the songs. Mike Garson’s over-the-top ostentacious style of playing never really fit with SP’s songs very well.

I completely agree! Lisa’s keyboard work, especially when she is supporting solely Billy, are truly her moments to shine! In fact, and with no disrespect to former members (I am a big Iha fan), I think this incarnation of the band is the best it has ever been. All five members seem to be occupying the same musical and emotional space to create a positive energy between them. Lisa, Jeff and Ginger are terrific players who continue to impress but mostly because they are great LISTENERS. They don’t dominate. They completely support and bring out exactly what the songs need. Who knows if Billy and Jimmy ever plan on utilizing their talents within a studio setting but I hope they do one day. “Peace + Love” is so perfect with Lisa’s electric piano–it gave the song such warmth, like something Christine McViue would’ve done. During “Gossamer,” she channels the late, great Richard Wright with her Floydian organ work. Her accompaniment during “Winterlong” is simply haunting. Just great stuff!
